The spirit of Super Meat Boy lives on in The End is Nigh, the game’s release trailer revealed today.
Edmund McMillen, the mastermind behind Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, gave the world its first look at the gameplay of The End is Nigh along with a surprisingly close release date on Steam: July 12.
The only thing we know about the game comes from its shorts description on Steam:
The End is Nigh is a sprawling adventure platformer where the player takes control over Ash, one of few “things” that have “survived” the “end of the world.”
Follow Ash as he flops his way through a future of pain and suffering. Feel his stress levels rise as you throw him into an endless swarm of decaying, mutant animal-like creatures and help aid his final epic quest… to simply make a friend (out of pieces of people he finds along his journey).
Loneliness, pain, suffering, a cute protagonist. Sounds like a game by McMillen.
In a blog post, McMillen said the game will come to the Nintendo Switch and possibly more platforms later.
