Over a year after its release, Overwatch is taking a stab at a classic FPS game mode: deathmatch.
In the game’s PC-only public test region, Overwatch added a new game mode called Deathmatch to the Arcade. The new game mode pits individuals and teams against each other in a race to reach a certain number of kills — 20 kills for free-for-all and 30 kills for team deathmatch.
In free-for-all deathmatch, players will have to go up against seven opponents and try to get as many kills as possible while avoiding dying by seven other players. Team deathmatch is a 6v6 mode, similar to Overwatch‘s standard game modes, and players who use Mercy’s resurrection ability will take kills away from the other team’s kill count.
The Deathmatch game mode utilizes several modified existing maps and a brand new map called Château Guillard, which a medieval castle in Normandy, France.
While Deathmatch is only available in Overwatching‘s PTR, deathmatch will be coming to all platforms at a later date.
